A Little More Lightening Up

While I was shuffling furniture from one room to another, I showed you in a previous post how I replaced this black bench with the white gateleg table. To the left of the bench, was this Home Goods purchased cupboard,

I took it from this corner and put it Read on…

Little Brick Cottage…Gotta Mix it Up to Keep it Interesting

Just as I showed you how I mixed a few styles of hardware in my master bath, I did the same in the cottage kitchen too. I think mixing a few styles keeps it interesting. I’ll give you a little peek into my brain…I know, scary, huh? Well the way I figure out how to mix the hardware, as far as what goes where, is I create ‘rules’, then I can apply those rules to selecting specific styles.

So for instance my first rule was Read on…

Monday’s Simple Cleverness…Give Yourself Some Painting Grace

Maybe you all know this already, and I’m a slow learner…very, very possible. I know, though, when I had a professional painter give me this tip, it was like a lightbulb went on. Duh! So here is the tip:

When painting trim, if the walls are going to be painted as well, be generous Read on…

One More Step in Lightening Up the Living Room

At ‘Our House’ in the great room, which is the living room area combined with the kitchen area, we built a partial wall to divide the space just enough to block the kitchen counter  and sink area from the living room side. Then at a later time we ‘cut’ off about 4’ of counter and cabinet on the peninsula to allow a more open walkway…and to give us room to build a pantry closet on the wall to the right. (I’ll get into that a little more in a later post, but here’s a glimpse.)

This picture was from a long time ago…right after I had painted the living room walls a super Read on…

Where Do You Sit at Your Computer and Blog?

When I first started this blog, I had no idea how many hours a day it was going to take. So I just put my laptop on the kitchen island and figured I was good to go. Just a few minutes a day, then I’d tuck it back away…um…not so much. It turned out that my computer was constantly out on the island, along with my camera stuff and miscellaneous reference papers etc. My island, which is the feature in our kitchen was not ‘featuring’ what I wanted it to feature. I needed to find a new home for my computer.

Here’s what I did…I pulled up this antique library table from Read on…

Little Brick Cottage…Kitchen Sneak Peek

I’ve been a painting fool at the “Little Brick Cottage” for the past 3 weeks. We have a wonderful family that will be moving in very soon, so the push is on to get it done and ready. Here’s a mini-tour of some of the kitchen details.

First off, this is the floor. We discovered this wide plank oak floor with old square nails, original to the cottage, when Read on…

A Very Sweet Trestle Coffee Table

In our living room, I have this trestle coffee table. Besides the fact that it’s super cute, it bears really special sentiment too, because my dad made it for me several years ago. We  had given him a box of milled scrap wood we had gotten from a local window manufacturer for him to putz around with. Little did I know he would create such a special piece for me.

This entire table is made out of Read on…

Little Brick Cottage…Come See the New Light Fixtures

All the ceilings at the little brick cottage have been painted and all the new light fixtures have been hung. Most of the lighting I bought at Home Depot, but a couple I bought at Menards. In keeping with the farmhouse style and age of the house, I tried to find lighting on a budget that fit. Let me show you what I got:

I’ll start the lighting tour with one of my favorites!  I love the Read on…
