Little Brick Cottage…All Primed and Ready!
Time to open up the paint cans at the “Little Brick Cottage”, Yay!
Actually, it hasn’t been that long since we started this adventure. It was the very end of December when we closed on this charming property, so that means in about two months of work we’ve gotten it to this point of being ready to paint. Not bad, considering everything that has been done to this delightful, but at the time, kinda needy property.
Kinda needy? That’s putting it lightly, for sure! Let me summarize just some of what we’ve done/had done since we bought the cottage: (Click on highlighted ones to see details of that project, some won’t be revealed until the end though.)
- Ripped out all the plumbing, and put in all new.
- Completely rewired entire property.
- Ripped out the wall between bathroom and kitchen to make room in bathroom for toilet, and re-work floor plan.
- Ripped out entire kitchen, including cabinets, and extra door to be replaced with window.
- Discovered original beadboard under old plaster in dining room, so removed plaster and patched in corner where beadboard was missing.
- Re-built wall between bathroom and kitchen.
- Put in all new fixtures, including Washer/Dryer in the new bathroom layout.
- Replaced all the windows.
- Installed wall and door separating back entry from basement, including rebuilding steps.
- Built bookshelves and window seats in dining room where beadboard was missing on window wall.
- Removed wallpaper and patched and skim-coated living room and dining room walls and ceilings.
- Completely changed kitchen layout and installed new cabinets and counters and appliances.
- Installed beadboard farmhouse style on walls in kitchen, bathroom, back entry, and front entry.
- Refinished floors, carefully preserving aged distressing on original oak planking floors in kitchen and front entry.
- Replaced all light fixtures.
- Installed doors in all both bedrooms, and closets and bathroom, as all were missing.
- Primed all the new wood and sheetrock and skimcoat…so now here’s what it looks like:
Dining room built-ins, seats are in the other room being primed too.
Dining room beadboard and chairrail primed.
Living room curved wall patched and primed.
Front entry beadboard primed, still need to finish patching wall, and work on entry door. (Isn’t that reproduction school house light perfect?)
Back entry primed.
Back bedroom trim primed, still need to patch all the holes in the wallboard.
New closet doorway primed, and old fir wood floor refinished. Still need to install bifold doors for closet and paint.
Bathroom all primed, here’s a peek at the vanity area.
Kitchen all primed and see that pile of paint on the peninsula??? Well that’s where I’m headed to next! Let the fun begin!!

Thanks Deborah. Funny, as I’ve been working in the little brick cottage, I’ve said many times to myself how glad I am that I wasn’t living in the mess. I’ve done it that way a few times and it certainly adds another element to the project! Good luck to ya!
This is an adorable place. Love what you’ve done with it.
