Monday’s Simple Cleverness…Oh the Fun to be Had with “Fun-Tac”

Well that’s what I call it, “Fun-Tac”, I don’t know, is that a brand name? or just what I thought package said? Let me explain what it is and what I do with it…

So this brand says “UHU tac”…I have no idea what UHU stands for? (Universal Holding Utility? I’m making that up, in case you couldn’t tell. ) Read on…

Someone Else’s House…Front Entry with an Amazing Floor!

A couple of days ago, I showed you the front entry bench vignette of my friend’s house, I want to show you a little more of that front entry hallway…

This shows the whole hallway to the front door. You can take in that gorgeous vintage braided rug. Just to the left through that doorway is Read on…

Lightening up the Living Room: How about the Popular Table?

Can you believe it? I haven’t shown you very much of “Our House”, and now I’m already changing it…the “popular” table has once again found a new location. If you recall I had this table in the West bedroom…and that seemed perfect, for the time, but not for this time. Here’s where it used to be:

It really was charming in one of the guest bedrooms in ‘Our House’ but alas, I must be willing to at least try new things… Read on…

Lightening Up the Living Room: Change out a Table and a Lamp…

When I decide to change up a room, I’ve learned how to turn on my ‘critical eye’. In other words, I try to see the space as a neutral party, not swayed by what I love in it, but really trying to allow myself to consider all the possibilities.

So with that opening, you’re probably thinking I’ve gone and done some huge dramatic change in the living room, but not really. The reason I bring that up is because I know how easy it is to actually get stuck in ‘a box’ because at some previous time you found just the right piece for a certain place…I just need to remember that just like in life, the same goes in decorating as well, just because something was right for a time, doesn’t mean it will be the right thing forever.

Case in point:

(Yes, I know this is a picture of the dining room and I’m supposed to be writing about the living room…I’ll get there.) Read on…

Lightening Up the Living Room…Now, to the Other Main Focal Point…(Yes, the TV)

Let’s face it, once you’re in a living room, chances are you’re watching TV, thus that area becomes one of the main focal points, (I’ve noticed that for some, ah-hem, mostly men, the TV is actually the only focal point in a room).  So I figure, if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em!  That’s what I, did in “Our House” first of all when I approved the wide screen TV to be out in the open all the time. Remember, the TV wall used to look like this:

That was the armoire with the old TV, but the new wide screen didn’t fit in it, and I decided to adopt a more contemporary view of the TV…literally.  So then, on the first transition it looked like this: Read on…

Monday’s Simple Cleverness…A Couple of Tricks Make Patching a Hole Simple

I cannot begin to count how many times I’ve moved around and changed pictures, so I’ve dealt with my fair share of ‘patch jobs’. I’ve learned from disappointing mistakes a few simple tricks that make it go much smoother.

These are 5 simple steps with a couple of clever tips:

1: With a sharp putty knife, be sure to ‘scrape’ off any little bumps from the previous nail or screw. Even though this pic is Read on…

Lightening Up the Living Room…Starting with the Main Focal Point, (besides the TV, that is)

The living room in “Our House” has a very main focal point, due to the actual layout of the space. It is a great-room style with the kitchen and living being totally open to each other. It has a dramatic beamed cathedral ceiling and the room’s far wall, where your eye naturally falls, upon entering the room, is a tall fireplace stone chase, symmetrically flanked by tall windows. (If you read my other posts about this set up, you’ll know that when something is arranged in a symmetrical flanking way like this, it’s like it screams, “Hey you, look at what’s in between us!”

In this case the windows are telling you Read on…

Time to open up the paint cans at the “Little Brick Cottage”, Yay!

Actually, it hasn’t been that long since we started this adventure. It was the very end of December when we closed on this charming property, so that means in about two months of work we’ve gotten it to this point of being ready to paint. Not bad, considering  Read on…
