Our House… Dining Room Table… Finally!

This has been a long time coming. I started to show you a tour of our “garage turned dining room” in January, but then I was delayed in showing this corner because it’s where I had tons of stuff stored for renovations on the “Little Brick Cottage”, but finally, it’s ready to be seen by blogland!

Finally you can get the Read on…

Little Brick Cottage… Back Bedroom Done!

Last time I showed you the front bedroom, in this two bedroomLittle Brick Cottage”. Now I’m going to show you how we transformed the back bedroom.

When we first bought this antique Victorian brick house, so quaint and sorta small it quickly got the name ‘the little brick cottage’. At that time the back bedroom looked like this: (almost as startling as Large Marge was in PeeWee’s Big Adventure, remember? “…and she looked like this…!”)

There she is, in all her ‘before’ glory!  Read on…

Little Brick Cottage…Bedroom Transformation!

There are two bedrooms in the “Little Brick Cottage”, a front bedroom off the dining room, and a back bedroom off the kitchen. This is the front bedroom being transformed. Let’s start with some before pictures to remember it by:

Monday’s Simple Cleverness… Looking for a Stud!

Stand down, gentlemen!

Looking for a stud…in the wall, you know, behind the sheetrock.

Sometimes you need to be sure you locate a stud in the wall on the first try. Like me this week in one of the spare bedrooms I was working on. I wanted to mount some swing arm lamps on a wall that had wallpaper, and I for sure didn’t want to mess up that paper, but for sure needed them mounted in studs so when being adjusted they stayed mounted on the wall, so I pulled out my clever and handy ‘stud finder’…

Yep, this is just about the time for that guy to jump in Read on…

Someone Else’s House… A Vintage One Drawer Mystery Piece

In my parent’s house is this cute vintage piece of furniture. My mom has always had this piece in their dining room and used it in some way as a buffet table.

My dad’s mother gave it to my parents probably around Read on…

Tall Beadboard Cupboard gets a Moving!

This last week, I’ve been working on the two spare bedrooms we have in our lower level, at ‘Our House’. They were basically pretty good, as I ‘refreshed’ them just a couple years ago. But last week it suddenly struck me: these two rooms need to be switched!

I was motivated because I was able to save some of the antique windows we took out of the cottage, and I was thinking of repurposing plans for two of them for in one of the bedrooms. I’ll show you that fun repurposing project soon!

The other motivator was thinking of how one of the bedrooms is larger and could house the twin beds better than where they were, in the smaller bedroom.

The final motivator was when I said my thoughts out loud, my granddaughter jumped on the idea and offered to help! It doesn’t take much to talk me into moving furniture, so 3 confirmations were like rocket fuel for me.

A while back when I first started this blog, I got my blog feet wet posting about the ‘West Bedroom’, that is one of the two bedrooms involved in this switch-a-roo.

This was where the tall beadboard cupboard was Read on…

Little Brick Cottage: Dining Room, My Favorite… No… One of My Favorites!

Hmmm…

What to write about today…do you want to see another piece of furniture from ‘Our House’ or, are you more in the mood for another room reveal from ‘The Little Brick Cottage’?

Ok, Little Brick Cottage wins today! (I know, the title gave it away.)

So far I’ve revealed the entry and living room at the little brick cottage. So what’s for today??? It’s my favorite room, (I think… although the back entry is a very close 2nd, and I have to admit that I love the kitchen, especially that window over the sink, and oh, those cubbies in the bathroom turned out really cute…) So let’s just say, it’s one of my favorite rooms.

Enough! Here is the dining room looking from the living room we just finished showing you:

You can see in the dining room has the same maple flooring as the living room, which we found hiding under the carpet. And you can see that the dining room radiator got the same bronze treatment as the living room’s.

Wanna see a pic of the dining room before again? Well, sure you do! Read on…

This Rescued Bench Hides a Huge Boo-Boo…Can you Guess Where?

The dining room shares a space for the main entry into “Our House”, so to have a designated place to sit and put boots and shoes on is very convenient. Read on…

To all of our favorite readers…that’s YOU!

Thank you so much for your amazing support!!  Because of the wonderful response to our ‘blog venture’ by you all we are hoping to make it even better.

Over the next week or so, we will be doing some work on our blog. It is supposed to be ‘seamless’ but… just in case it’s not perfectly seamless, and our blog goes down for a little while, that’s why, and we will be back better than ever!
