Inspiring Fall Colors

I love Fall… the crispness of the air, the ripe apples in the orchard, and the gorgeous colors are all wonderful inspirations for me to clean, cook and redecorate!

Like right now, sitting in the library room of ‘Our House’, this is my scene out the window:

This week as I was getting ready to show ‘Our House’ (we starting to spread the word that it’s on the market, and if that doesn’t spread enough to sell it, we’ll probably list it with a realtor in the spring) anyway, I was really enjoying doing some thorough fall cleaning, and as I cleaned each room, I rewarded myself with, not only a clean room, but then I’d pause and decorate it for fall.

I am a very goal oriented person, and to reward myself at the end has been something I’ve always done. (for you psychologists out there, possibly analyzing this, I hope that’s a good thing?) I remember as a little girl, working out in the fields with my dad, and being inspired to keep hoeing the tomatoes, so that we could go swimming at the end of the day. It always worked for me! I still totally operate with that simple mind frame. Work first, play later…

So here are some pictures of the dining room, after it received a little fall touch of color, for its reward of being cleaned. Ha, sounds dorky, I know, but really that’s how my brain works.

Amazing how a little bittersweet, (that I had bought from a little old man last year, who grows it in his yard) and fall foliage can make the whole room look warm and invite the changing season in.

The pottery barn ladder that is hanging in the seating area of the dining room, is such a fun thing to decorate with the seasons and holidays. Adding these two simple strands of faux foliage, I bought last year at JoAnn’s, totally changed the look of it.

Since it’s one of the first things you see when you enter ‘Our House’, what’s on it, sort of sets the mood, by introducing the decorating feel for the season. So I guess this mood is a warm welcome to ‘Our House’.
