Simple Fall Centerpiece for the Kitchen Island

After I finished with the fall cleaning and adding a some fall décor to some of the rooms, I realized that the kitchen island needed a little something.

The island in the kitchen at ‘Our House’ is the first thing you see when you come into the room, and I usually try to be mindful of that… when it’s not piled high with papers, mail and miscellaneous… ok, so apparently since it’s the first thing you see, it’s the first place to dump… it’s a constant battle to keep it clean.

But for now, here’s a welcoming fall centerpiece I put together:

It started with this super cute placemat I found at Target. It’s a simple linen/burlap type material with a vintage looking stencil on it.

To that I added the ceramic squash I’ve had for a few years, I picked them up at JoAnn’s. (They add the needed height to this arrangement, and the dark brown with black speckled accents.)

I loved the antique ironstone creamer addition to this vignette. I’ve had it forever I think. Way, way back in the day, I went through a spell where I was collecting creamers and small pitchers. I’d get them at garage sales for 5 or 10 cents! There’s something about their shape I just like. I don’t know much about their value, but just knew what I liked and it was so fun to find old ones to add to my collection. I still have 15 or 20 at least around the house, and this one seemed to fit well here.

This pair of roosters, I got at Pottery Barn on clearance, sit in front of an antique cheese basket accented with peppers. (The peppers I got at the grocery store in the produce section… ha! Yes, they’re real peppers)

The cheese basket, my mother-in-law gave to me at least 20 or 25 years ago. I understand it was actually used to make cheese in.

When all these textures are put together, with the subtle coloring balanced around and with a little splash of orange, it weaves together a lovely arrangement to warm up the kitchen island.

Basically, all these things that make up this centerpiece were items I found around ‘Our House’ and repurposed to create a fall vignette

What do you have laying around your place that you can put together to repurpose into something pretty?

  1. Great centerpiece! I have a peninsula in my kitchen, that I too have problems with clutter…it is indeed a never ending battle! Yours looks great…now I’ll have to get after mine. I personally love the vignettes that are pulled together by various items laying around the house…they are always unique to that particular family, and are so much more interesting! ;)

  2. Very cute and I love the pot rack.
