Mantels: The 'Hearth' of the Home

Oh boy, kinda corny, huh? Oh well. But certainly the mantel and hearth do have a ‘heart of the home’ feeling. Typically, they’re the focal point of the main room in the house. That’s why we love to decorate them.

This was how I decorated the mantel in the living room of ‘Our House’ for the summer… So for the fall, I changed it around just a little bit and now it totally has a warm fall feel, take a look:

I replaced the ivy topiary with a fall floral arrangement I put together in this heavy cement planter. Then moved the tall birds to flank each side of the antique plate, I did leave the brown bird cage on the right, (but took down the little ironstone pitcher filled with ivy that was sitting next to it. I felt that green was too bright and clear for the warm fall color scheme I was going for), instead I put some faux olive branches across the top of the mantel interwoven with tiny LED lights (they’re battery operated and last for a really long time)

Sometimes by just decorating the mantel, since it does carry so much visual weight to the room, you don’t even have to do all that much decorating elsewhere to pull off a wonderful decorating mood.

I still wanted to have more light and white objects in the room, but by adding a little of the oranges and olive tones to accent a few things with, I’ve brought in the feeling of a warm fall atmosphere to the heart of the house.
