Our House: These Chalkboard Labels Aren’t What You Think They Are

DecorateWithaLittleBit.com fake chalkboard labels

We just finished the wet bar in the family room at ‘Our House’, and I’ve had a lot of fun with the accessories. I already showed you how I installed the shelf with a vintage candy box and soda pop collection above the counter. (if you missed that, click here)

So for on the counter, I wanted just a few cute things, that I didn’t have to spend a bunch of money or time on. When I saw these retro jars at Target the other day, I thought, ‘perfect!’

This is what they looked like before the labels: click here to read the rest of the story…

Our House: Wet Bar Cabinet Stencil Project

Right in the middle of painting my new wet-bar cabinets, I was contacted by Royal Design Studio to post a little something about their stencils.

Well, perfect timing! I wanted to add a little bit of something to the two cabinet doors, and they offered me to select one of their lovely stencils…

(yesterday I showed you some details I decorated on the shelf above the wet bar, click here if you missed that post)

Someone Else’s House: Drastically Change a Vintage Fireplace with Paint and a Little Bit of Fabric

Can you believe it? The same fireplace in in both these pictures, and no structural changes were made… just a little bit of paint and fabric… and elbow grease.

Our House: A Fireplace with a Few Confessions…

In the family room at ‘Our House’ I recently installed a fireplace and brick chimney chase all by myself!

You maybe noticed it in this picture I showed you a little bit ago when I told you how I turned these plantation shutters I found on Craigslist into a giant folding screen behind the sectional.

Well, there on the right is the brick chimney and fireplace I installed, all totally on my own.

Someone Else’s House: Amazing Closet Transformation

DecorateWithaLittleBit.com before and after closet collage

When I showed you this young couple’s stairs and the clever numbered treatment they did to them, I mentioned that they were working on transforming this closet.

It sits across the landing from the stairs, between the kitchen and living room of this antique bungalow home they bought a few months ago. Since then, they’ve been busy transforming it into click here to read the rest of the story…

A Little Getaway at a Gorgeous Victorian B&B

We recently were given an amazingly generous gift package from our son and daughter-in-law to a B&B in Stillwater, MN at The Rivertown Inn.

DecorateWithaLittleBit.com dining room wallpaper

(This is the ‘wallpaper’ in the dining room… They had an artist somehow photocopy or reproduce a painting onto large canvases and then hung that canvas on the wall like wallpaper, and then embellish it by hand with paint. It looks amazing in person, like a huge oil painting on the walls!)

A little about the history of Stillwater, the oldest town in Minnesota, it is a picturesque town sitting on the St. Croix River across from Wisconsin and absolutely filled with Victorian homes and mansions, amazing shops with tons of choices for antiquing. It’s for sure a destination town and well worth the trip.

And the place we stayed, The Rivertown Inn, was over the top in opulence and décor! The amazing attention to detail with no expense spared for this antique B&B is remarkable. High end finishes throughout, both inside and outside… click here to read the rest of the story…

Our House: Lower Level Hallway Walls Get a DIY Faux Leather Treatment

In the hallway of our lower level, I wanted to create some interest on the walls without adding pattern.

My answer was this:

DIY: E-A-S-T-E-R Baskets

Last week I share a really fun little craft project I made for part of the dining room Easter centerpiece at ‘Our House’.  (if you missed that post, click here to see it)

I had so much fun making those transformed peat pots, and wanted to be able to use a few more of the wonderful Easter graphics from Graphics Fairy that I came up with a similar craft, but with a little bit of a creative twist.

1 1 easter

So I embellished them a little bit more and spelled out E-A-S-T-E-R on each little peat pot.

Our House: Family Room Game Table Re-Do

So last time I showed you how I did the game chairs that go with this game table… I bought the set from Craigslist, purposely looking for a ‘project’ set, so that I could inject my own personality into it…

(and, like I told you with the chairs, darnit, I totally forgot to take a before picture of the set, but it was a 1980’s golden oak with brown vinyl seats)

Let’s pick it up from where I left off with the chair project

1 7 chairs and table - Copy

The chairs I painted black, applied oval numbers in white and black and the seats are recovered in a dark brown and cream colored houndstooth fabric. (so, I just wrote that really fast, but the actual decision making wasn’t nearly so quick… once I had the chairs done though, I needed to figure out how I was going to paint the table to ‘pull’ it all together, and look like a set… it took me a little bit of creative thinking…)

I knew I wanted the top to be something special, click here to read the rest of the story…

Our House: Family Room Game Chairs Re-Do

This winter I decided it was time to do a major overhaul to the lower level family room at ‘Our House’.

Part of that change was completely flipping around, from one side of the room to the other, the TV viewing area, which now left ½ of the room basically empty. In that empty part, I had plans for a game table and chairs, (and will be installing a wet-bar soon too… future posting alert!)

When I started shopping for game tables, I decided I liked the vintage ones better, so I focused my shopping on Craigslist…

The chairs needed to have casters for easy moving on the carpet. I wanted something that was a project, so I could inject my own personality into the finished look. And I didn’t want anything that was too big… or too small… but just the right size… I guess it was kind of like Goldilocks looking for a game table set… But I found it on Craigslist and it was perfect. After a treacherous drive to the other side of the cities (Minneapolis/St. Paul) on what started out to be good roads, but quickly turned bad, we scored this set: click here to read the rest of the story…
