Someone Else’s House: Amazing Closet Transformation

DecorateWithaLittleBit.com before and after closet collage

When I showed you this young couple’s stairs and the clever numbered treatment they did to them, I mentioned that they were working on transforming this closet.

It sits across the landing from the stairs, between the kitchen and living room of this antique bungalow home they bought a few months ago. Since then, they’ve been busy transforming it into click here to read the rest of the story…

Burlap and Jute Give Wonderful Texture to this Table Re-Do

Let’s just start out right away with the before:

1 1 1 table before

Here are the things I like about this table… I like that it has storage, I like the shape, I even like the wood graining technique on the brown part.  But I do not like and never have liked the green panels with the flowers. They just aren’t painted in my favorite style or something…

I’ve been debating with myself ever since I bought this little table/cabinet from HomeGoods several years ago, why did I buy it if I didn’t like the way the green part looked… but since I did buy it that way, didn’t I need to ‘live with it’? I typically would have no problem selling it, but the size and shape and storage have been so darn useful, that I haven’t wanted to totally part with it.

But guess what? I finally came up with what I think is a great way to re-do it… well just the green panel parts… I decided to use click here to read the rest of the story…

Little Brick Cottage: Living Room From the Beginning to the End

I introduced you to “The Little Brick Cottage” just a few short months ago, and I’ve been taking you through the process of us completely transforming this antique brick house from top to bottom. We’ve finally come to the point of being finished with the interior and so far I’ve revealed the front entry and the radiators. Now I’m going to show you the living room…

Taking it back to the beginning, here are a couple of pics showing before and after. On the left is what it looked like the day we bought this brick house in December, 2011, and on the right is what it looks like now:

These are taken from the arch doorway between the living room and dining room looking Southwest. Read on…

Little Brick Cottage…Kitchen Cabinets are In!

Yay! We have kitchen cabinets and counters installed at “The Little Brick Cottage”. I went there the other evening to take photos and I had my 7 year old granddaughter with me, she’s been there a few times before with me. However, it’s been so long since there were cabinets in the kitchen, and the first time she was there with me, they were already torn out. So when I told her I needed to take some photos of the kitchen, she exclaimed to me, (as if I had missed a huge detail!)  “Grandma, what are you talking about? There isn’t a kitchen!” “Well there is now Sweetie! Ta-Da”:

I was giddy to see how much work has been done… Read on…

Little Brick Cottage, Window Treatment Removal Reveals Sad Surprise

In the process of removing the wallpaper in the living and dining rooms at “The Little Brick Cottage”, I also removed the very ugly, dusty and dated window treatments. Excited to get them down to let in the light and behold the beautiful tall antique windows, I was quickly dismayed at the sight. It wasn’t the condition of the windows that was so frustrating, I already knew they were in horrible condition and we’re planning on replacing them, it was way worse.

Let me show you, this is what the ones in the living room looked like:

And without the draperies and hideous box valance this is what we found: Read on…

Our House, Master Bathroom: The Whole Picture, Chapter 3

As you walk into the master bathroom beyond my vanity on the right is this:

the ‘toilet room’, or as some may say, ‘the water closet’, sounds so nice, but I don’t how many people nowadays would know what a ‘water closet’ was. I’m not even sure how exactly to use that term. Is it the room, or the fixture?

Whatever you want to call it, there has really been quite a transformation by the simple addition of Read on…

Our House, Master Bathroom: The Whole Picture, Chapter 2

Here are a few more pictures to show you those areas; starting with my vanity area:

Because there is so much painted wood in the room, on the horizontal and vertical beadboarded walls, as well as the carsiding on the ceiling, I really wanted to have some woodgrain to contrast, so the vanities and linen stepback cupboard are cherry with a dark glaze, and the little antique Victorian chair next to the tub is dark walnut.

When we first bought “Our House” this same vanity space looked like this: Read on…
